Description
Origin
The origin of the Strawberry Doughnut can be traced back to the mid-19th century in the United States. Doughnuts, a popular sweet treat, were already well-established by this time, but the addition of strawberries was a game-changer. It is said that a New England ship captain’s mother, Elizabeth Gregory, created the first doughnut with a hole in the center in the 1800s.
It wasn’t until later that the addition of strawberry flavouring was introduced to the doughnut. With the rise of industrialisation in the early 1900s, bakeries began to produce doughnuts on a mass scale, and the strawberry version quickly became a favorite among consumers.
Ingredients
Flour, Sugar, Yeast, Milk, Eggs, Strawberry puree or strawberry flavoring, Powdered sugar, Butter (optional), Salt (optional), Vanilla extract (optional)
Taste
The Strawberry Doughnut is a delightful treat that combines the classic taste of a doughnut with a sweet, fruity flavor. The dough is soft and fluffy, with a subtle hint of strawberry that’s not overpowering. The glaze adds a burst of sweetness and a stronger strawberry flavor that perfectly complements the dough.
Shelf Life/Preservation
Like most doughnuts, the Strawberry Doughnut is best enjoyed fresh and should be eaten within a day or two of being made. However, if stored in an airtight container or bag, it can last for up to 3 days at room temperature. To thaw, simply leave them at room temperature for a few hours or microwave them for a few seconds to warm them up.
