The exact origin of tiramisu is uncertain, as there are a few different stories about how it came to be. One popular theory is that it was created in the 1960s in the region of Veneto, Italy, specifically in the city of Treviso. It is said that tiramisu was invented by a pastry chef named Roberto Linguanotto, who was looking for a way to make use of leftover egg yolks from other desserts.

Another theory suggests that tiramisu has much older roots, dating back to the 17th century. It is said that it was originally made in the town of Siena in Tuscany, where it was served to wealthy families as a celebratory dessert. The recipe would have been quite different from the modern-day version, as it did not include coffee or mascarpone cheese, two key ingredients of tiramisu today.

Regardless of its origin, tiramisu became popular in Italy in the 1980s and quickly spread throughout the world. Today, it is a beloved dessert that is often served at Italian restaurants and can be found in many grocery stores and bakeries.
