Description
Origin
Bread has a long history of serving as a fundamental food item. Wheat in its raw form was discovered buried in dug pits in communities over 8,000 years old. White bread slices & rolls were also unearthed in the graves of ancient Egyptians.
Both tempered and unleavened bread is mentioned in the Bible, and pictographs that are thousands of years old depict prosperous times, as shown by an abundance of perfectly shaped loaves of bread.
The ancient Romans were the initial civilization to recognize the significance of bread. Around 168 B.C., they established a Bakers Guild, and its members were tightly monitored to ensure the general public did not taint them. This confirmed that the quality of the bread would not change.
